So, as I’m waiting to go to work, I thought that I would take a break from reading the Reagan Diaries and write a bit in my own.  I’m certainly glad that I’ve started this here journal, but I desire to write more than I am currently as time progresses.

So, today has been lonely actually.  I’ve been pretty at ease about not being married for some time now.  For many years (prob. about 6yrs now) I’ve been content to not be married.  Sometimes though, I have the desire to have someone around to talk with and just share my time with.  I most definitely need to spend more time with God!  -  Even more than writing in this journal!

Earlier this week, I assisted another officer on a grou of teen s that were at a park after hours.  We had received complaints that the group of teens were drniking while in the park.  We arrived and dealt with the group of teens.  It’s interesting in a sense–for almost an hour we talked with this group of teens and had a enjoyable conversation mixed in with our investigation.  They seemed like nice kids for the most part who were just drinking (some were underage).  Due to the fact that they were straight up with us and they were cooperative, we decided to let them go.  However, as I searched the area that they were in, I found some drugs and a pipe that they stashed (most likely so that we would not find it).  Well, I did find it and I called all of them back to sit on the ground again so that we could restart our investigation.  It just goes to show that you don’t always have the trust that you think you do when you deal with people on the job.  Well, they were caught and I know that we did our job.  However, we were easy on them–no arrest made.

I’ve really been thinking about my financial situation.  It’s not bad right now, but I find myself regularly thinking about how I might be able to pay something off sooner or how I might could make a bit more money.  I don’t want to be obsessed with money issues, but I’m thankful that God has given me a mind to be mindfull of my finances and the ability to think wisely through them.

wow

It’s been a VERY long since I’ve been here.  I need to make some changes to this situation!  Hope everyone and everything is well. – J

Hey guys,

I preached this week on Jeremiah 29:1-14.  It was a cool sermon because I really walked away being encouraged by God’s word.  It was encouraging to see how God’s sovereignty is played out in the prophecies of the OT.  I have so long looked over how we can see God’s control over the universe.  Just think, people so often say that God’s word is not true.  To me, it’s such a captivating study to see how the prophecies of Jeremiah came true.  Growing up I remember seeing people on TV say that certain events would take place.  I don’t recall what the events were, but i’m sure that most, if not all, of them did not come to pass.  Where as in Scripture, everything that God says will happen, happens!  Learning the historical context for this chapter was also interesting.  I praise God for allowing me to study this passage.  Yes, it’s OT which to some is a bit boring, but for me it was a wonderful learning experience.

Also, I used a book that I would recommend to you guys.  The author’s name is Mark Dever.  Mark Dever has written several books.  The one that I read was the Message of the Old Testament (there is also one on The Message of the New Testament).  Each chapter covers one book of the Bible.  Each chapter gives an entire overview of the book of the Bible discussed in the chapter.  Mark Dever is an interesting author to read as well.  I highly recommend both of these books so that you can always have an on hand guide to help you get an overview of the Bible.  Dever is also the author of Nine Marks of a Healthy Church; The Deliberate Church; The Gospel and Personal Evangelism; and probably a few more that I am not thinking of.

Glorify God in all that you do guys :)

Studying the Word

This morning I am sitting here at home studying.  I have to preach a sermon tomorrow on Genesis 2:18-25 for one of my seminary classes (Expository Preaching II).  This is most likely my first expository sermon that I’ve preached.  I have taught several times before but I feel like this is truly the first time that I’ve preached a real expository sermon.  It’s exciting, but a bit unsure as well.

The weather here in LA is great today.  I just went for a short walk around the complex sidewalk.  In the shade it’s bit cool, but in the sun if felt great!

I was searching YouTube today and found this video. It is amazing! I think it has been viewed over 25,000,000! Seriously, check it out and then leave me comments as to whether or not you liked it. Have fun with it. Also, he has some other songs on YouTube as well.

Earthquake!!!

Well, I was up till about 12:30am last night reading a book. I went to sleep not too long afterwards, but it was not a good sleep. I felt like I was dreaming or something. None the less, I woke up at about 12:58am to the sound of a loud popping noise. Next, I realized that my bed was shaking and did not stop for several seconds. I got up to see what was going on and I realized that several other people in my apartment complex had gotten up as well. It turned out that it was a 4.5 earthquake. Nothing too major near my home, but it was an interesting thing to wake up to!

Lately I have been looking for a second part time job.  My church had an opening that seemed to be a great fit.  I found out today that I did not get the job due to some health related problems that I have.  I suppose they did not want the liability.  That was a bit of a let down, but at the same time, I realize that God is in control and that I need to continue to trust in Him :)

Hello Everyone,

My Bible study will be considering a biography to go through next semester.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  For the Bible study, I am looking mainly for suggestions on Christian men.  HOWEVER, I would like to increase my biographies in my personal library as well.  So,  if you have a biography of anyone (man or woman) that I might enjoy reading on my own, please comment on those as well.

Thanks!

Steve Lawson

Yesterday after work I went to dinner with Mark Hassler.  We went to a place called California Chicken Cafe.  That is some good food!  I ordered the chicken breast with 2 sides (salad and red potatoes).  Well, I’ve only eaten there about 6 times, but the food tastes consistent each time.  My meal was about $9.00 including my drink.  If you’ve never been there before, then you might wanna try it out.  It’s located approximately 5 miles from Grace Church.

After dinner we went back to Grace Community Church and attended the Friday night Super-Study for CrossRoads College ministries.  Dr. Steve Lawson spoke on the biography of Johnathon Edwards.  He did a great job at presenting the material.  Edwards was truly a godly man who desired to seek after the Lord with all his heart.  I found one point very interesting.  A man once asked Edwards if he could have his daughter’s hand in marriage.  Edwards replied “no you may not!  My daughter is not good enough for you.”  Wow, can you imagine that?  It’s one thing for a father to not think that the guy is good enough to marry his daughter, but to say that “my daughter is not good enough for you,” that was very interesting to hear.

I will be working here at the library until 5pm today.  What I do after that I do not yet know.  I should probably go for a walk to get some exercise.  Of course I will eat some dinner as well.  Maybe, if all goes well, I will fellowship with some of my neighbors a bit as well.

Oops

Well, I must say that today started off with a bit of confusion because of time restraints.  I could not sleep much last night, but  I have no idea why.  I needed to be at the Saturn dealer by 7am this morning for my oil change and complimentary wash (nice!). Anyway, they were pretty busy, but they got the job done and I was able to make it to where I needed to be afterwards.

Last night I ordered a pizza from Papa Johns. One large, one topping pizza for $4.99. I got pepperoni, extra sauce, and thin crust. I had just sat down to eat when I got a knock on the door. It was my neighbors inviting me to come have desert.  It was the twin’s birthday (Courtney and Cassidy) so I stopped eating and went over there place for cake and ice cream. It was great ice cream and cake, let me tell ya!  Anyhoo, afterwards we watched a dance show on t.v.  It was interesting.

Today I am working at the library. Most likely I will be working till 5pm and then I may or may not go to Bible study tonight. It depends on how tired I am since I could not sleep much last night.

Okay, until later…

Jeremy
